LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) – The 2019 edition of “Grateful Dead Meet-Up At The Movies” is going global for the first time. Announced on Tuesday (June 3), screenings for the 2019 edition will take place on August 1st, Jerry Garcia’s birthday, at cinemas throughout North America, Europe, and Australasia.
The ninth annual installment of the concert film event will keep the tradition of playing a specially selected concert from the Grateful Dead‘s career in movie theaters. The archival show is chosen in a collaborative effort by Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux and Rhino Entertainment.
In addition to being screened at major movie cinemas, this year’s event will also take place at a mix of independent and art-house theaters.
“It’s been incredibly exciting to watch the ‘Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies’ evolve over the last eight years, with the audiences growing larger and more eclectic with each installment,” said Rhino Entertainment president Mark Pinkus in a statement. “Partnering with Trafalgar Releasing will now take us to the next step in this evolution, with even more diverse cinema offerings and worldwide distribution.”
This year’s featured concert will be unveiled June 13 when tickets go on sale. Last year’s event featured a 1989 concert at Washington’s RFK Stadium.
